Fight On! Q&A With PDS®-Supported Dentist Dr. Nicole Smith
Today I had a chance to sit down with Dr. Nicole Smith at PDS-supported Beach Dental Group in Huntington Beach, Calif. Dr. Smith was kind enough to take a few moments out of her very busy schedule to answer a few questions for the inaugural entry in our Pacific Dental Services® Q&A series — where we shine a spotlight on superstar team members and supported dentists.
Dr. Smith is the associate dentist at PDS-supported Beach Dental Group, where she has worked for the last four years since graduating from the NYU College of Dentistry. I would be remiss if I did not mention her undergraduate studies at University of Southern California, as she remains a diehard Trojans fan.
Sean Swentek: What is the best part about being supported by PDS?
Dr. Nicole Smith: There are multiple charity or community service events that we do together: Smile Generation® Serve Day, Serve trips to Fiji and Ethiopia, Braveheart, building wells in Ethiopia through charity: water, etc. While some of these things are possible on your own, PDS makes it much easier to get involved by having a team committed to planning and organizing these events, which makes it easy to participate. I also love all of the continuing education they provide, making sure that the supported dentists are up to date on the latest technology and best practices that are out there today.
SS: Do you have a favorite charitable cause that PDS is involved in?
NS: I was blessed to be able to participate in the PDS-supported trip to Natavu Mission in Fiji to provide pro bono dental care to the Fijian people. The trip enabled us to treat over 150 patients throughout the week who otherwise would not have had access to any dental care. Many of the patients traveled four hours by bus to come see us. Our group consisted of four supported I agI dentists and various dental office team members to help out. We often had the office managers play the role of dental assistant to the docs! The locals were so kind to us and extremely grateful for our services, which made the trip just that much better. One of the Mission employees thanked us by taking us on an afternoon hike up the local volcano! It was an incredible experience.
SS: What are some of your hobbies outside of work?
NS: I love to keep myself busy when I’m not at the office. You can often find me going for a run by the beach, hiking, finding fun places to eat, or riding my beach cruiser around town. But my favorite thing to do is watch USC football! (Yes, even when we are having a tough season…)
