Get to Know a PDS®-Supported Dentist – Q&A with Dr. Frederick Lee

Dr. Frederick Lee recently agree to be interviewed for our question and answer series, shedding light on what it’s like to be a PDS-supported owner dentist. Dr. Lee is an accomplished clinician and writer, recently having an article published in Inside Dentistry. Continue reading below for the entire Q&A portion of our meeting.

Sean Swentek: Dr. Lee, please tell us a little bit about yourself.

Dr. Frederick Lee: Hello, my name is Dr. Frederick Lee. I have been practicing dentistry for almost 20 years since graduating from Boston University dental school in 1995. Wow, that sounds so long ago! I am the owner dentist at Hemet Dental Group and Orthodontics in Hemet, Calif. I have been a PDS-supported dentist for about four years.

SS: That’s an impressive amount of experience. What is it like being supported by Pacific Dental Services®?

FL: Being supported by PDS allows me to concentrate more on the clinical side of the practice and training my associates. It has also allowed me the flexibility to get involved as much as I want in the business aspect of running my practice, and that part interests me as well. Another great aspect is the comradery; I am closely linked to other owners and peers to bounce ideas off of.

SS: Is there a particular thing about PDS’ business support that allows you to differentiate your practice?

FL: I think PDS’s support allows me to set my dental practice apart due to three main reasons: technology, systems and beliefs. PDS allows me to offer more services than almost any private dentist or group dental practice, such as: CEREC® by Sirona CAD/CAM dentistry, laser cleaning systems and the ability to maintain all of my specialty services in house. I think that puts me at a distinct advantage above any competitor. I am given access to systems that help me deliver services more efficiently and effectively to patients. PDS’ support allows me to focus on creating Patients for Life™. I get to do that through providing the Perfect Patient Experience®, which helps us establish what every business needs: lifelong, happy customers.

SS: It sounds like PDS’ support provides many great systems that help you be the best dentist you can be. What else are you able to accomplish as a PDS-supported dentist?

FL: One of the things I am most proud of is working with charity: water to help build clean water wells in Ethiopia. Through The Smile Generation® and with other PDS-supported clinicians, we were able to build over 100 wells there last year. It is a powerful project that really moves me to take part in.

SS: What an incredible mission that is. Tell us Dr. Lee, how do you spend time outside of your practice?

FL: I try to spend most of my time outside of work with my wife and two young children. I do have one small hobby; I enjoy buying old, broken-down motorcycles and fixing them up. A perfect day is riding on my bike in the beautiful southern California weather.
