Huntington Beach Cleanup with Surfrider Foundation
Another day at the beach. Another chance to serve.
Between volunteering, staying active, helping family, and balancing work/personal life—outreach is such an important part of what drew me to working at Pacific Dental Services®. The Huntington Beach Cleanup, hosted by the Surfrider Foundation on Saturday, April 25, 2015, was the epitome of what PDS® stands for.
I enjoy volunteering and being active, but this event was a personal favorite because I brought my little brother along. After a little difficulty finding the tent on Pacific Coast Highway, a helpful group of first graders volunteering through their school let us tag along with them. As you can imagine, it was a journey of laughter.
Once we actually got to the beach and its walking-biking lane, all we had to do was follow the trail of people picking up garbage. Did you know, Surfrider Foundation reports that cigarette butts are the single most collected item in international beach cleanups each year?
The green PDS “We Serve” shirts were immediately visible and inspired a lot of corporate pride. Just knowing so many of my coworkers were there volunteering on a Saturday—when they could be at home or busy doing other things—was incredible.
There’s nothing like the satisfaction of contributing to a bigger vision that’s also making an enormous difference. That’s why volunteering is important, and the great people at PDS—including Rachael, Kyle, Catherine, Stacey, Sabrina, our trainers, and everyone else—all share that same excitement.
It’s true, #PDSROCKS. Amen to that!
